About Us
Showing Jesus’ love to the world starts with just one bed.
The Bed Ministry is a diverse group of people who love Jesus who build and deliver beds to needy children. We encourage all people to come together to serve and meet needs. There is no age limit. Children as young as five years old to adults as old as eighty-five years old have built beds with us. We feel as though God can use anyone who desires to serve.
The vision of this ministry is to meet the physical need of a bed, and then try to meet a spiritual need by praying with the family and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Most people don’t understand the need for beds because most have beds. Many people today take their beds for granted – never thanking God for them. A family sometimes has to leave everything they have to get out of a bad situation. The Bed Ministry has the privilege of providing a child with a brand new bed who might not have ever had anything new of their own. The children we minister to are thrilled to have a new bed, mattress, sheets, pillow and comforter to call their own.
If you know a family who needs a bed, contact your local school resource director. The director will contact us and we will get in touch with the family and set up a time to delivery and set up the bed.
“I just wanted to Thank Jerry Newsome, Bill Fuqua and Neal Cole for coming out to North Marshall Middle School last week to build beds with the 7th grade boys basketball team. We wanted to do this in memory and honor of our son Preston Cope who lost his life 2 years ago in the Marshall County School shooting. He was a giving young man with a huge heart and loved everyone. But most importantly he loved God! And this is what Preston would want us to do, by helping others less fortunate and spread Love and Kindness.
The boys worked hard and initially we were going to build 2 to 3 beds but they were turning it on and ended up building 6 beds!! It was a great experience for them and I pray that each of them took away from this experience, that it truly is better to give than receive. And that helping others is so important and serving our Lord. Keep our eyes open to the needy and suffering and give us the resources, hearts, and wills to bring the relief needed. May God continue to Bless the Bed Ministry and everyone involved that it may grow and continue to spread the word of God!”

Local Bed Ministry builds 1,000th bed.
Jerry Newsome built a small bed for his granddaughter’s doll and it was the start of a ministry that nine years later is constructing its 1,000th bed to meet the needs of children in western Kentucky. Newsome has been involved in mission work since the mid-1990’s so the Bed Ministry vision was an extension of that. Read more…
I can’t tell you how thankful I am for Jerry Newsome and his crew of men who help with The Bed Ministry! Today they blessed a family with 2 sets of bunk beds and a toddler bed for 5 children. Not only did they provide beds for these precious kiddos, but they took the time to pray for the family and share the love of Christ with them. I know some little boys who where excited to come home from school this afternoon to find new bunk beds! Thank you Jerry and volunteers for putting smiles on many faces and being a blessing to so many families!!

Twenty years ago I heard about children who were sleeping on the floor. It so happened that I had recently bought my son a new bed and had an extra one available. A friend and I hauled the mattress and bed down into Dobbs Holler. We had to tote the bed up a steep hillside on our shoulders. As we walked we could see a mother bathing some children in a washtub on the porch. When we took the bed inside we saw a three room house with no running water and only 2×4’s for walls. The children, all 5 of them, slept on the floor— a rough hard chip board floor. The kids jumped and leaped and squealed with excitement at the thoughts of having a bed to sleep in. Too often we in America are oblivious to the great poverty that exists all around us. Thank God for folks like Jerry and Rita Newsome and The Bed Ministry for their work to ensure that no child has to sleep on the floor. Over the years they have provided dozens of beds to children here in one of the poorest counties in America. We are grateful beyond words for The Bed Ministry and the wonderful work they are doing in Appalachia.

Bed Ministry Service Area
Although we originated in Marshall County, we do not limit our services to any specific area. Jesus called for us to go forth and we aim to do just that – providing beds and linens to children of needy families from all around the area. We use our ministry as an opportunity to share the gospel and show Jesus’ love to the world through our actions. We make the beds from scratch to order. Care, precision, and love go into the manufacturing of each and every bed.

It all started with a request to build a small bed for an American Girl baby doll for my grandaughter, but as you can see, God had much more in store.
No one could have imagined from that simple project in 2013 where we would be today. But here we are, still building beds (which are little larger), and being allowed to minister to others by the simple genioristy of of indivduals like yourself.
